The sunflower and balsamroot artwork on the can is a nice tie-in between cultural significance between Icicle and MOVA. In Ukraine, sunflowers are important not only economically, but as a powerful symbol of peace and resilience. In our area, the endemic wild Arrowleaf Balsalmroot is a type of sunflower that illuminates the hillsides to usher in springtime. The name Golden Bloom further hammers home both the color of the Helles, the fact that both our breweries won awards at the European Beer Star Competition, and the budding friendship that arose from meeting in Germany during that competition.
Our director of brewery operations, Collin Christianson, tells the story of how this excellent collaboration came to pass:
In September 2025, I had the fortunate opportunity of meeting members of the MOVA Brewing team at the European Beer Star Winners’ Night; an exclusive, industry-leading celebration that’s held directly after the awards ceremony that honors gold, silver, and bronze medalists from the European Beer Star awards. MOVA Brewing had just been making waves by winning multiple awards that night, including one for International-Style Lager which was the same category Icicle also won an award for with our Premium Pilsner! It’s always an amazing experience to get the opportunity to connect with other breweries that win in the same category, so I made a point to catch up with the MOVA Brewing team that night.

International brewing conferences and competitions are always especially interesting as many of the attendees come from different cultural backgrounds and often speak different languages. While this could sound like it might make connections difficult, often that is not the case as the beer industry has always had the unique ability to bring people together. That was certainly the case on this night as, despite our language differences, once I met the MOVA Brewing team we quickly found a way to communicate through Google Translate in order to connect, even at a loud and crowded event where neither of us spoke the same primary language. That said I must admit that the MOVA Brewing team speaks much, much better English than I speak Ukrainian (which is none!).

That evening, I was fortunate to meet Olga, the Head of Marketing, and Daria, the Head Brewer at MOVA Brewing. They made a significant impact on not just on myself, but on many of the attendees at the European Beer Star Awards Ceremony, as a female lead team representing MOVA Brewing that night. When I had the opportunity to catch up with them, we discussed their success in winning three prestigious awards that night (Gold in Bohemian-Style Lager, Silver in Hazy India Pale Ale, and Bronze in International-Style Lager) as well as their strong female representation at the awards ceremony. The conversation quickly became very impactful and humbling as they described that they were representing the brewery because the men from the team were not able to leave the country in case they were needed to protect their community in the face of the ongoing war. They shared some amazing pictures of their entire team back home in Dnipro, Ukraine celebrating the awards that they had earned that night, which really brought both the shared joy as well as the gravity of their situation to the forefront of the conversation.
That night, I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to sample some of their delicious, award winning beers that were being poured at the European Beer Star Winners’ Night, and I have to agree with the judges that MOVA Brewing is making world class beer and we are stoked to be working with them and releasing this collaboration Munich-Style Helles together.
I certainly hope to get the chance to travel to Dnipro, Ukraine in the near future so I can pay our new friends a visit and experience all the amazing things they’re doing over at MOVA Brewing Co.; between the award-winning beers they brew as well as their strong commitment to being leaders in their community. Please share our enthusiasm in raising a toast to our collaboration with MOVA Brewing Company!
